Roger’s extensive Akron area experience includes 14 years at The Wine Merchant, then training staff and installing menus for the opening of Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls. He left to become opening Chef for Ken Stewart’s Grille, where he was executive chef until leaving to open Sixteen Eighty, on the site of the original Wine Merchant.

Chef Roger contributed to Akron’s downtown renaissance with the opening of Piatto in 2000. Prior to its opening, Roger traveled to Italy where he honed his skills with some of Europe’s most prestigious chefs. In 2001 Piatto was awarded “Best Restaurant in Akron” and “Best Italian Restaurant in Northeast Ohio” in Northern Ohio Live Magazine’s Reader’s Poll. In addition, Piatto (Italian for “plate”) and Chef Roger hosted a prestigious event for The James Beard Foundation in 2003.
